Description: To arrange the numbers 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 so that each side of the triangle adds up to 10.

Goals: Students will develop their problem solving skills by arranging the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 so that each side of the triangle adds up to 10.

Objectives: Students will:
1. add single numbers
2. add several digit numbers (Extension)
3. recognize number patterns
4. record results

Materials:

Procedure:
1. Put the numbers 1-6 on the board, and ask the children to think of different ways to make the total of 10 using the numbers.
2. Explain the investigation and give each child a set of numbered cards which they can use as concrete aids.
3. Have students record the answers in their books.

Assessment: Could the children add up single digit numbers successfully?
Did the children achieve the right answer?
