Date: February 7, 2000
Grade Level(s): 1
Subject(s):
- Mathematics/Number Sense
- Mathematics/Process Skills
Duration: 45 minutes
Description: This activity can be used to conclude a unit on place value. Students use foot patterns to make a path down a hallway, from 1 to 100.
Goal: Students will be able to count from 1 to 100.
Objective: Students will be able to order numbers from 1 to 100, forming a foot path.
Materials:
- foot patterns (teacher-created or here's one idea )
- scissors
- pencils
Procedure:
Depending on class size, hand out 4-5 foot patterns per student. Tell each student which numbers out of 1-100 to write on the patterns. (Note that students will all have different numbers, and the numbers are not in order.)
When all of the patterns are ready, students will be called up one number at a time to place their numbers on the floor for the path. Once the path is finished, students will be allowed to walk down the path (after taking their shoes off).
Assessment: Is the number path correct? Did any students have difficulty identifying or ordering the numbers?
